Dear God, Please help our friend the demented spammer to get himself a
life. There is so much to be done in the world to help people
enjoy life, that we need his persistence to be doing good in the
world, and not to spend his days trying to cause trouble to other
people in order to boost his own low self esteem. Help him to
know there are other ways to feel a little power than to
inconvenience others. We feel deeply for someone who feels so
helpless that he thinks he is incapable to do anything useful.
Put someone into his life to help him find his soul, and to show him
that he can join with us all and feel himself as a worthwhile
person. Amen Lane Bond, Webmaster for this site. Name: Logan Boles CommentsThere is a 1961 BSHS class ring listed on ebay. Name: Denise Durrant CommentsWhen my great uncle passed away my father received a 1942 Big Spring High class ring with the initials EBB inside the band. The story is that my great uncle served in World War II with the "EBB" gentleman and at some point they did not believe they were both going to live. The young man gave his class ring to my uncle and asked him to make sure that it was returned to his family if he did not live to make it home. Fortunately, both my uncle and this young man lived. But, my family now has a ring that his family should have. Can anyone possibly give me some (any) information on who EBB that graduated from Big Spring High in 1942 might be, and how I might be able to contact him or his family? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Denise. Name: Patsy Lewis Platt CommentsDoes anyone have any contact information for Cathy Fowler? Other posts of mine in this section show the two dozen or so Big Spring yearbooks I have for sale, including junior high and college yearbooks. However, most of the yearbooks I have collected are from other cities in Texas and throughout the country. I have seen a lot of different yearbooks, and most are just about what you would expect, but some are a little odd. Here is my Top 10 List of Yearbook Oddities: 10. A few yearbooks, principally from the northeast part of the country, do not have pictures (mug shots) of the classmates! They just have the general group shot pictures of sports, clubs, band, etc. 9. Some yearbooks were really just for the seniors. Other classes only took up a very small portion of the yearbook with individual mug shots the size of you little finger nail. 8. The old yearbooks I have from Big Spring from the 1920s and 1930s have pictures of the students from each class, but they are not listed alphabetically! There is a possibility they might be listed by class raking (grade point average or some such). Has anybody heard of such a thing? 7. I have the feeling that many students did not have their picture in these old Big Spring yearbooks. I am sure it was a financial issue. 6. The old Big Spring yearbooks from the first few decades of the twentieth century contained jokes. A few were *very* politically incorrect, especially about racial stereotypes. 5. Over 50% of the pages in one yearbook are congratulation ads from parents and grandparents. 4. After several decades some yearbook covers smell awful! 3. I don't have any like this, but some old yearbooks from very small schools were hand made on mimeograph machines. Do you remember those smelly, messy things? The pictures were put in them by hand like into a photo album. 2. One yearbook I have is not a book at all! It is more like an organizer. It unfolds into three sections containing pockets for different sized booklets. There is a Sports booklet, an Activities booklet, a Seniors booklet and a Underclassmen booklet. And number 1 on the list of yearbook oddities: 1. A few yearbooks do not mention the name of the high school or the city where it is located anywhere in the yearbook or on the cover! - David Harper Name: Helen (Sherry) Davis CommentsHello, Class of 1980! I hope all is well. Name: Betty Carper Thompson CommentsWe have moved to Pueblo West Colorado. The new address is 936 Indian Bend ,Pueblo West, Co. 81007 My daughter Rhonda died Sept 10, 2005. A few people in Big Spring knew her. She is greatly missed. Name: Martha Allen Bryant CommentsJust lurking. Where is everybody? Anyone from the class of 1980? This weekend is going to be great football weather here in Arkansas and was just thinking about the great football games at BSHS. I was a band kid and always seemed to have great fun at the games no matter if we lost or win. Everyone be safe! Name: Melba (Preston)Sykes CommentsI received the BSHS newsletter today. No mention of a 60th reunion for our class of 1947. I suppose there will not be one this year? Haven't attended for several years, but thought I might go this year - since it is our 60th. Name: Greg Devlin CommentsRealizing it has been 40 years, I was wondering if there has already been or if there are plans for a 40 year reunion for the Class of '67. I have not been back to Big Spring since I left for Texas A&M in the fall of '67. I imagine Big Spring has changed a lot since then. I graduated A&M and have lived in upstate New York (yes, lots of snow and cold) since 1972. I work for The University of Rochester. If anything is planned, I would appreciate hearting about it. Thanks all, Greg Name: Lisa (Tally) Whittom CommentsWould love to hear from anyone that graduated in '76! I moved to Missouri recently and would love a "penpal"! Name: Hardie CommentsI didn't like the way I ended that last posting. "...and others (civic clubs) are asking." That is not true. My goodness! I am beginning to believe my own promotional material by the paper. It is the hope of the NEWS CITIZEN that I will be asked by more clubs to speak. They have promoted me every way possible, now it is my turn to put myself before our readership to push our circulation upward. That's what the newpaper business is all about, so I am learning. Now I feel better; just had to clarify that last statement. I'm still amazed that age 80 I have a whole new world opening to me; one that I did not seek at all and had no idea it was going to happen. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Name: Hardie Matthews CommentsMy email address has changed. What a wonderful life at age 80. Mrs. Lillain Shick was my English teacher there at BHS. It was in her class that I learned the love of literature and the written word. At age 80, my local newspaper, the PASADENA NEWS CITIZEN, invited me to be on its staff. I have a column titled "Hardie Moments with Hardie Matthews." When I write about Big Spring, I'll post it on this website. What a marvelous site. From my continually performing as Drum Major and on stage for my first production as a sphomore, I developed a love of performing and was invited to speak at one of our Rotary Clubs and have other clubs asking. Amazing! Thanks to BHS !!! All the best to each and every one, Lee Underwood Name: David Harper CommentsThis is in reference to what Donnie Mabe Rupp posted about Glenna Coffey, BSHS class of 1955. Here is her class picture from the 1953 yearbook when she was a sophomore. As you can see she signed her picture. The yearbook originally belonged to La Faye Stanley: http://home.comcast.net/~harperresearch/GlennaCoffey1953.jpg Name: Donnie Mabe Rupp CommentsObituary from Dallas Morning News for member of BSHS Class of 1955: Glenna Keith Coffey Moore MOORE, , GLENNA KEITH COFFEY Nine letters, "Yankee Iron Horse." As an avid crossword puzzler, Glenna Moore knew the answer-Lou Gehrig. When Glenna penciled in the name 'Lou Gehrig' on countless crossword puzzles, little did she know they would one day share something life-altering in common. On July 27 2007, Glenna Keith Coffey Moore, age 70, passed away after living the past two years with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend to all, Glenna will be remembered for her radiant smile, contagious laughter, and always-caring heart. Glenna's life began on November 22, 1936 in Big Spring, TX as the daughter of John Askew Coffey and Margaretta Sanders Coffey. The Coffeys were schoolteachers and instilled the teacher traits of patience and grace with their daughter. Glenna graduated from Baylor University in 1959 with a B.A. (Education) degree where she served as President of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After college, Glenna moved to Dallas, TX and followed in her parent's footsteps as a fourth-grade teacher at George W. Truett Elementary School from 1959 to 1962. On a blind date in the fall of 1961 she met William Alvin Moore, Jr. (Al). It was a classic case of opposites attract. Being outgoing and talkative, Glenna never envisioned herself finding Al, the much more introverted of the two, attractive-but she did. And in the summer of '62, they married. By the spring of 1963, Glenna and Al were living in Fort Worth, TX when they welcomed the birth of their first daughter, Melana Love Moore (Lana). A second child, this time a boy, followed soon thereafter-William Alvin Moore, III (Trip). And in 1970, girl/boy twins arrived-Margaret Elizabeth Moore (Marty) and John Hardin Moore (John). The Moore Family settled into their North Dallas home on Tophill Circle where Glenna took care of the kids and Al took care of his young, growing business. Glenna led a very active life during this time. Besides the full-time job of being a mother, Glenna found time to volunteer for Meals on Wheels, participate in numerous Parent Teacher Associations, and be an active member of Spring Valley Methodist Church and later, Prestonwood Baptist Church and Park Cities Baptist Church. For thirty-plus years, Glenna enjoyed the camaraderie and competition from playing tennis at T Bar M Tennis Club. She played on numerous teams with the Tennis Competitors of Dallas, the Women's Tennis Association, and as a mixed-doubles partner with Al. Some of Glenna's fondest times were spent on and off-the-court with her tennis friends. Because of her personable, dependable, and likeable ways, Glenna developed friendships easily. Some of her most enduring friendships were formed within her long-running neighborhood bridge club and more recently, her dominoes group. She was fortunate to remain close to her brother, Robert Thomas Coffey, M.D. of Fort Worth, TX. Glenna was also fortunate to enjoy the endearing friendship of Trip's wife, Jacqueline Blair Moore, and their two children-Blair Christian Moore and Hannah Love Moore. Glenna absolutely adored her two grandchildren who affectionately called her 'GiGi.' But Glenna's most enduring and endearing friendship was with her husband of 45-years. By the time their kids had grown and moved away, Al and Glenna became the dating couple they used to be and set forth to live and love till eternity. As a couple, they traveled the world enjoying the adventures of barging down the canals of France, cruising through the Straits of Magellan, and ballooning over Switzerland. Unfortunately, the creeping paralysis of the ALS disease put a stop to their worldly travels. As the disease progressed, Glenna's body became weaker but her bond with Al became stronger. Their unfailing love was on display every day as Al took care of his ailing wife until her passing. And now, Glenna patiently waits for Al to join her in their most adventurous travels yet-the glorious eternity of Heaven. The Moore Family will welcome friends from 6:00 to 8:00 on July 30 at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home (7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225). Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on July 31 at Park Cities Baptist Church (3933 Northwest Parkway). The Moore Family requests memorials be made in Glenna's name to MDA ALS Division (12750 Merit Drive Suite 1220, Dallas, TX 75251). Dignity Memorial Sparkman Hillcrest 7405 W. Northwest Hwy. Homecoming is the weekend of October 5th & 6th. We have events planned for our class. See the message below that was sent to all classmates for whom we have email addresses. We are desperately in need of more contact information (email address, postal address, business websites or phone numbers) for any and all classmates. Also we need info on classmates who may be deceased. Yes, we know of several who passed on in the late 80's or even before we graduated, but we have virtually no information from the last 10 years or so. Even if you think it's old news or are not sure if it's accurate, send me a note anyway! We'll research it for accuracy before we announce it. I need to remind everyone that we are trying to set up a "memory room" or "memory area" for the Saturday evening function at the Country Club. We are asking everyone to send group pictures from your 6th grade class or any group pictures from our childhood like Little League, church, Girl/Boy Scouts, etc. We'll take items from Jr. High, too...it doesn't matter to us. It will really be interesting and fun to take a trip down Memory Lane. Please send these to us electronically (scan them and email them to me) or make a color copy or burn them on a CD and mail them or bring them to us on Friday or Saturday morning so we may get them displayed before the event on Saturday evening. DO NOT BRING ANY ORIGINALS!!! These are irreplaceable, and we do not want the responsibility for loss or damage. I'll gladly send anyone my mailing address for this purpose. Please remember to check the message boards on classmates.com, bshsalumni.com or reunion.com 'cuz we have a reunion event planned on these. I try to post basically the same requests/info on all sites as I send in email messages. I'm hoping to get the attention of people whose email addresses I don't have, so that maybe they will contact me or someone in the class. To avoid the cost of postage, we would really like to handle all correspondence concerning the reunion electronically. I realize this is not possible for everyone and we will be sending some things by the US mail and will have to receive some things by mail. More on that in an update around the end of summer. This is our 25th reunion. We really want to make this the biggest and best one yet because we aren't getting any younger or any skinnier (as a general rule anyway)! It's the Silver Anniversary marking our graduation from BSHS, so we deserve to celebrate together in grand style, catch up on old friends, relive the "glory days" and make some new memories. The reunion is only about 8 weeks away! Start planning now. Keep Us All As One... Kim (McClendon) Dewbre & the Reunion Committee Name: Dana (Workman) Newton CommentsThank goodness this is back online. It's the highlight of my week reading messages left. It is on a server that I use for my web page business. I put it here because it works. Use your back button to get back to the Exes site, or click on it above. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FirstName: James PostedMessageAfter finding this site, I believe thanks should go out to a lot of people that has put in more hours than any of them would like to remember, but their works really show the effort. It really got started with Julie for many years and now there is a crew with Logan, Don, and Doyle. I am sure there is more but due to health reasons, I have not been able to attend to many renuions. I will be thinking of everyone and hoping that every one has a wonderful time. Please take time to say thanks to the ones that made it all happen. Wishing everyone the best of health and travel safely.
FirstName: Logan PostedMessageThere is a 1948 EL RODEO listed on ebay, Item number: 130121137351. FirstName: Donnie PostedMessageI use most of the same search websites that David Harper uses. I also have paid subscriptions to Ancestry.com and other genealogical sites that have birth, marriage, and death records not readily available for free on the internet. Ancestry.com also has a people search for addresses and phone numbers. I also use: http://preview.ussearch.com/preview/ (US Search website which is very helpful because you can search by age) http://find.person.superpages.com/ (Superpages helps with verifying addresses and phone numbers) http://www.anywho.com/ (an online directory that's great--I usually find that some of the addresses/phone numbers on Superpages are old and outdated when I check Anywho.com) http://www.rootsweb.com/ (has a searchable database for the Social Security Death Index as well as other searchable death databases from California, Kentucky, Maine and Texas--these are also on Ancestry.com but it's a paid site) http://www.genlookups.com/tx.htm (Genlookups has volunteers who will look up items for you--their website has the Texas Marriage Index and Texas Divorce Index plus a lot more searchable ones for other states) Another resource I use is the tax appraisal databases that are available on line for just about every county in Texas and in most states. They sometimes help confirm that the person is still at the found address but the phone number is no longer listed--probably because they went to a cell phone. When you have someone with a fairly common name, sometimes you have to send out an "all class" email to find out middle names, siblings' names, parents, etc., to help find the missing classmate. Donnie Mabe Rupp FirstName: Raylene PostedMessageThis will be our 35th year. If anyone out there would like to do something please let me know. I do have all the records from the last reunion. I am still here in Big Spring my phone no# is 267-8901 ( it's never changed either ) FirstName: David PostedMessageHow I find people using the Internet. There is no single place on the Internet where you can go and enter someone's name and be guaranteed to find his or her current address. I subscribe to several for-a-fee (paid) search services, with yearly subscriptions of several hundred dollars. Even using these sources and many other free Internet sources it takes some skill and patience to track some people down. Here are some websites I use. Some of the paid sites have free search options that can be very useful. http://publicdata.com/ (Paid) It has Driver's License records and Voter Registration records. You can search Voter records by maiden name. It also has criminal records. https://www.intelius.com/ (Paid) But basic free searches can return useful information, such as age and relative's names. http://www.peoplefinders.com/ (Paid) Similar to Intelius above. You can search by date of birth. http://www.zabasearch.com/ (Free parts and paid parts, like Intelius and PeopleFinder). http://www.knowx.com/ (Paid) But has many free searches, especially, marriage and divorce records for Texas. http://www.whitepages.com/ (Free) All kinds of searches, including reverse address. I have been searching for missing people using the Internet for several years and have discovered the hard way all kinds of off the beaten path places on the Internet to find out things. Each search will be different and will need different search techniques. If you are looking for someone but don't want to go to the trouble -- and expense -- of using the above websites, let me know and I will try to find your missing person for you. No charge; no guarantees. - David Harper FirstName: Albert PostedMessageWhatever happend to the class of 73? I would have graduated in '81, but moved during the middle of my sophomore year. Anyway, I live in Green Forest, AR and came across a black letterman's football sweater with Gold BS letters. On the inside was stitched Mike McAllister. I guess you know where I might be going with this. Do you think you might research what possible class this sweater came out of? Or advise me where I might research deepr for this name. The sweater might mean more to someone closer to this person. I was astounded that I found this outside of a flea market type store. Anyways, Hope you can help. Curtis Matthews FirstName: Shirley PostedMessageDoes anyone out there know how to get in touch with Jack Cox from the 1955 class? There a lot of them, but most interesting to see. www.oldbigspring.com FirstName: Hardie PostedMessageDid I ever goof! In my message just posted, some of you in reading it might wonder, "So what does Myrtle Lee's painting have to do with Robert Swann Lee? Evidentaly they are related." If that might be your thinking, you are right. Myrtle Lee was Robert Swann Lee's mother. I failed to state that in my first message. Bone head here will blame that faux pas on age. Why not? At 80, anything can happen! And usually does! FirstName: Hardie PostedMessageOctober 26, 2006, I posted a message expressing my sorrow in not being able to become friends again with Robert Swann Lee. He passed away in 1997, and lived just an hour away from me. Swann, as I affectionately called him, had a wonderful mother and dad. Pat Simmons sent me a email message today that had a site for old Big Spring photographs. I clicked on it; there were many photographs, and therefore, I became rather complacent in viewing them. Then the citation read, "Rose Painting by Myrtle Lee." That just blew me away. Myrtle's painting had a very special soft look about them. And there was one of them on that website! What an amazing coincidence!
