I left Big Spring in 1971, following my father Roland Heun"s retirement from Webb AFB. We moved to Camp Verde, Tx. My siblings Pat, Terry and Bruce were still in school. We lived down the road from the Camp Verde Fort...historical place of the camel experiment. I spent a month with my family and then returned to Big Spring to figure out a direction to go with my life. I got a job at Rudd's donut shop. Does any one remember it? Today I am wearing my class ring and memories of good people and fun times in Big Spring have flooded my mind. It may seem silly to some to think of a 55 year old wearing a class ring so let me tell you a story. I lost my ring in 4" of carpet grass in Camp verde July 1971. There were countless hours of family on hands and knees searching for it. We have relived the story of the loss many times over the years. My family moved many years ago from the house where the ring was lost. I am married and live in Hunt,TX and yesterday I was talking to a friend who had done some work at the site of the lost ring. I told him about the move from Big Spring to Camp Verde and he asked he if I had lost a class ring . I could not beleive my ears when he said he had found the ring with a metal detector. He brought me the ring, I looked on the inside and saw the inscribed initials B.K.H.(Barbara Kay Heun)what are the chances of this being any of my classmates ring? Pretty slim but I could be wrong. I once heard a story of a fisherman who found a ring in the belly of a fish and was able to find the owner many years later Pretty Cool! My ring is as shiny as it was 37 years ago. Thamks for reading and if you remember me I would love to hear from you. I am on the Patio Ranch in Hunt, TX. I have a posting on here dated August 8 2007. Blessings, Barbara Heun-Ploch

I just moved back to Texas from Florida where I have lived since 1961. I am living in Krum near Dallas now. Is anyone around from my graduation class? If so write me.

[Editor's note:
The next posts down to David Harper Aug 22 have all been posted tonight after the homecoming game.  I have been so swamped I have not even been aware that I was neglecting  this job.   Thank you all for posting.

Pat McCormick was in Big Spring  with an appearance at the Heritage Museum April 10, 2007.

http://bigspringmuseum.com/McCormick.htm     I do their website also, and this link will show you pictures posted on the museum walls for several days, and a picture I took of her at the event.  Also there is a link to her own website.  I enjoyed a exchanging emails with a relative of hers who does her website.  She still looks great and moves like an athlete.  I missed the picture you referred to, David, sorry.

We won over Pampa Harvesters 43-21 tonight after a start of 14- our 0, tied at the half, and a great last half.]

I ran out of fingers and toes counting the years since graduation in 1981. I guess that means we're getting old :) I missed our 20 year reunion since I was on active duty. However now that I'm retired and living in San Antonio (a short drive to Big Spring), I am very much looking forward to our 30th. Sadly, I have fallen out of touch with many of my you. I'd very much like to hear from any 1980 and 1981 classmates. Sincerely Martin Solis

Last week my brother Chester Miller 111 or also known to his friends as Marty died suddenly aug. 20, 2008 at 8:30 am cst. Marty was four years younger than me and we lived over on airport st during the time all of us were together. He had retired with 25 years with the Maryland State Police and was a LT. when he retired. From there he did acident reconstruction for 5 states I belive and also worked as a independant contractor for the State Department. He never forgot his friends in Big Spring and always asked me if I have seen someone recently. Marty never changed his personality any. He'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I'm the only one left now except for my son and 2 daughters and grand children and marty's 2 daughters and his grand children. We buried Marty on Saturday Aug. 23,2008 in Western Maryland where all of his children lived now and his wife's children. When I saw the final resting place I thought of the song "High up on the Mountain". It is really beautiful but a son of a gun in the winter. Anyway if any of his friends want to email me go ahead. take care ricky miller

The Big "M" Drive Inn. My understanding of the Big M is, it was owned by old man Rainbow, his wife's maiden name was Masters, Rainbow owned Cokers resturant and all the Wagon Wheels, after he died Al Bagwell bought the Masters and renamed it the Big "M" Bagwell bought the Wagon Wheels later on. The Big M" was torn down to make way for FM 700.

To David Harper...or who else cares. I saw your post from 2005 about Patrica McCormick. She was a lady bullfighter from BS and there is a great book about her called "The Lady Bullfighter" it is hard to find but I got it on loan awhile back from U of Oregon. She was one of my idols growing up. She and her parents lived around the corner from me in BS. If anyone gets a chance it is worth the read. Sure wish we could have gotten together class of '68 hopefully next year.

[Webmaster's note:  I saw this book in the Howard County Library last week.
Buy one at http://www.amazon.com/gp/legacy-handle-buy-box.html/ref=olp_offerlisting_1.
Google Pat on "Advanced search" for exact the phrase "lady bullfighter".
See pictures of her appearance at Heritage Museum in Big Spring April 20, 2007
http://bigspringmuseum.com/McCormick.htm.
She still looks great, and is interesting to talk to.

My dad Preston Dunbar graduated BSHS probably around 1943-44. He passed away may 2nd 2008 and was buried in Big Spring. We traveled from Mississippi and stayed in Midland due to the Motel shortage in B.S. I would love to come to the class of 78 reunion but it would be too expensive after already going in May. Enjoy and someone please give Irene Little a hug from me. She is such a special person to me and in my high school memories.

Well fellow classmates of 1972 I have finally decided to retire from teaching. From time to time I have seen responses from my ex-students from 78-88 and I realize that I'm old. This will be my last year teaching and I'm off to see America.Hello Angie Dees, you ran track for me. I hope you got a response to your request. I might try to get to Big Spring to see the Class of 88 since that was my last year there. If any of the class of 72 is out there give me a line.

What a wonderful website. In the tradition of "Earl" on TV, I want to make amends for something bad I did to someone. I will probably never get to see her again in my life time. Whenever I think about it, It makes me feel sick. There was a girl that we went to highschool with that several of my friends and I teased incessantly. Her name was Freda Harmon. I don't know if any of you know where she is or what happened to her, but I would love to have the opportunity to appologize for how cruel we were to her, or at least for my part. If anyone knows how to get a hold of her, please email me at stormygw@yahoo.com I really want to do this. Kids can be so cruel to each other without any thought or understanding about how their actions may affect someone else for a life time. Hi to all the graduates of 73 & 74!

Betty Quimby taught Government for a few years in the late 1950's and early 1960's at Big Spring High School. She was one of my favorite teachers. I just found out that she died February 21, 2008 in Fort Worth. She taught in Fort Worth for 20 years after she left Big Spring. I was able to get back in touch with Betty in 2003 and we exchanged email regularly for about a year, then she disappeared. I had not heard anything about her until I found her obituary online. During the time we were emailing each other I decided to phone her. We had a wonderful chat for almost an hour. She sounded so happy to hear from me. Her voice was just as I had remembered it from high school. Some months later, after more email exchanges, I got a phone call from her out of the blue. We had another wonderful hour-long chat. At the end of the conversation Betty told me that it was her birthday that day and she decided to call me because of that. I was incredibly touched. Thank you for so much, Betty Quimby.

I was browsing through some old files on my computer when I came across this discussion about the Big M drive-in that used to be on the classmates.com message board. It appears to have been deleted. I have re-posted it on Classmates and for the first time here. Molly Hefner's long post about half-way down really sums up the Big M. Thanks Molly! And I am still looking for pictures of the Big M. Anyone? ---------- From: MOLLY HEFNER 1964 Does anyone know when the Big M was replaced by something else? Was it replaced by the Wagon Wheel, or by Sonic? When was the Sonic built? From: ERIC BREWSTER 1962 The Big M will never be dead...............!!!! From: MOLLY HEFNER 1964 You're right, Eric! The memories and spirit of that wonderful place will always live in our hearts! From: ERIC BREWSTER 1962 Ah yes....what do I remember about Master's?....also known as ...."The BIG M"?....well, try the numerous mufflers and exhaust pipes ripped loose as you negotiated the circle around on the northwestern side!!! Hellaciously big ruts!! Eric From: TERESA CONNER 1968 Molly, The Big M was replaced by Pins and then Als. Now there is a parking lot where it once was. I don't remember when they built the sonic..but it has been here a long time. From: FRANKLIN EARLEY 1961 Then there was the day we stuck the windshield washer (filled with karosene) hose down the carb on Gene Patton's '55 Ford, parked behind the drive-in so the wind would carry the excessive smoke from the tailpipes across the property! It made so much smoke you couldn't even see the cars...old man Masters came out the back door shaking his fist yelling "Get that smoking thing out of here and don't come back"! He was P.O.ed.... From: RAYMOND ANDERSON 1965 My memories are the Big M was closed down just before or while I was in the US Army 1966-1968. When I came home in June 1968 the Wagon Wheel between 3rd and 4th close to the Hoilday Inn was the hang out. I have no idea about the sonic but it was several years later. From: SHERRY HOWELL 1975 I remember the sonic being built when i first started high school, early 70's. What was the Big M. Lots have changed when I go back to visit family. Kinda depressing really, but the old town will never lose its fighting spirit! Started: 04/24/08 04:21am PST From: MOLLY HEFNER 1964 Hi Sherry, The Big M was a big drive in that you could drive all the way around. When it was first built, the car hops wore skates. In the 50's and early 60's, things in Big Spring were just like in the movie American Graffiti. Really. Anyway, it was owned by the Masters family, and at first was called "Master's" It got shortened to the Big M later. It was located right about where Gregg now crosses FM 700. The reason it was so cool was that the building was small, like sonic, but the driveway around it was very large, so lots of cars could get around, and there was lots of parking around it, on the dirt lot, so you could park and get out and talk and watch everyone else. We would sit on the hoods, and talk, and flirt, and of course criticize everyone else's cars, and their dates, and who was with who. Most of the time it was so crowded that you couldn't drive around it in less than 1/2 hour. We fell in and out of love, there were fights, lots of vanilla cokes and cherry limes, and hours and days of good times. There are lots of good stories about the Big M. I'm sure that other people want to add to this, I think I've said enough! Except that for those of us in that time, it's where it all happened, and it's one of our very best memories! From: MARY ENGSTROM 1960 Molly, You were exactly right about the Big M. We would go around the Big M and then drag main. It was a ritual. I remember some kind of special drinks like a purple cow (I think). Seems like there was some kind of plastic toy that came with it that you saved. Did anyone else go with a gang of kids for picnics at Moss Creek Lake? From: MOLLY HEFNER 1964 Of course! We used to do that all the time. I can't imagine why we never got bitten by copperheads. I know they were there. I drove out there at homecoming last year. It looks different now. From: HELEN EYSSEN 1965 Hey, Molly....just was in here reading all the new messages..and I happened to come across this one you wrote..it just brought back a memory long forgotten. I guess I was a 9th grader, not sure...and I was at the M for cheeseburgers...with Lou....and don't remember who else...if anyone....I was still wearing my retainer then. I took it out to eat dinner, and promptly gathered it up accidentally with my napkins and trash and threw it away! later that night, I had to tell "the parents" what I did......well, needless to say, here we all were... the whole family, down at the Big M, going through their trash, looking for that damn retainer.....trust me, Big M trash is not fun to go thru!!!!! From: MOLLY HEFNER 1964 Funny story! Hope you found your retainer. Molly From: HELEN EYSSEN 1965 nope, I never did. had to buy a new one!!!!! Dad was so pissed.

WOW! reading through all of these posts was a trip down memory lane, especially George (Butch) Owens post mentioning some of the old haunts. I remember dragging main, the Big M, Moss Creek, Friday night sock hops in the gym, bonfires and football games, etc. I've lived in Virginia the past 35 years....but always a Texan at heart! Just wondering, does anyone know the whereabouts of Janet Pryor (Murdock) (?), or Billy McDonald (his dad owned the Studebaker dealership in Big Spring). How about Kay Kincaid or Tony Herring....I think I'll go unpack my El Rodeo yearbooks...LOL

Dear God,

Please help our friend the demented spammer to get himself a life.  There is so much to be done in the world to help people enjoy life, that we need his persistence to be doing good in the world, and not to spend his days trying to cause trouble to other people in order to boost his own low self esteem.  Help him to know there are other ways to feel a little power than to inconvenience others.  We feel deeply for someone who feels so helpless that he thinks he is incapable to do anything useful.  Put someone into his life to help him find his soul, and to show him that he can join with us all and feel himself as a worthwhile person.
Thank you for replacing some of the emptiness that I have felt in my own life with a sense of being a real part of you and of the world around me.

Amen

This is for kista Eberhard, who did not leave her email address: I assume Henry and Sylvia are brother and sister. The closest matches I could find are: 1) Sylvia Madrid, born in Howard County (Big Spring). She would have graduated in 1972. 2) Henry Madrid, born in Howard County. He would have graduated in 1973. If you think these might be the people you are looking for I will see if I can find out more about them. If not, if you have more information let me know and I will look some more.

Katie thomas Grimes and Karen Hughes suggested I look up this website. I am very excited to see so many old classmates and read news of their lives over the past 48 years. Lot's of water under the bridge. Visiting with old friends is very special. Many are no longer with us and that fact makes me sad that I did not keep up with them. A little historical update from our household. Having lives in some of the greatest places in the world Barcelona, London, Hong Kong, Palm Spring, Newport Beach Ft. Myers, FL. and traveled to over 30 countries returning back to visit Big Spring is very special. Susan S. Snell and I were married August 3, 2003. We live part time At "The Big woods Farm" between Aurora and Naperville, Illinois. We recently sold out penthouse in Houston and acquired a old home in Cuero, Tx. It is a home built in 1883 by a rancher, cotton merchant and banker named "Alexnader Hamilton", yes he was a distant cousin of the real one. The home sits on an acre in "downtown" Cuero :+). Over the years, I have been involved in many businesses from a drilling company which I started in 1978 to a environmental engineering company with 9 offices around the world. Susan is an architect /expert on historical housing and multi-family dwellings. In 2002 she was appointed by Pres. Bush to the Historic Preservation Council of which she serves as Vice Chairman. The Council oversees all government buildings worldwide (840,000).Parttime job that has become almost fulltime. I have two children, jason, engaged to Andrea Hayley and is a Sr. Project Manager for Enterprize Products and is in the MBA program @ The Bauer College of business @ U of H. Jennifer, graduated from TAMU. lives in Keller, Tx, teaches third grade and last years was selected and an "Exceptional Teacher" by her district, single with two great doggies, Wylie and Baxter. Susan has two children and two step children. We look forward to the next reunion and seeing everyone again. Jason has developed a website for our family ( www.barnes.com) It began as a website for extended family members to post news about their lives, but has been trnasformed into the "offical" Barnes family website worldwide. When my great uncle passed away my father received a 1942 Big Spring High class ring with the initials EBB inside the band. The story is that my great uncle served in World War II with the "EBB" gentleman and at some point they did not believe they were both going to live. The young man gave his class ring to my uncle and asked him to make sure that it was returned to his family if he did not live to make it home. Fortunately, both my uncle and this young man lived. But, my family now has a ring that his family should have. Can anyone possibly give me some (any) information on who EBB that graduated from Big Spring High in 1942 might be, and how I might be able to contact him or his family? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Denise.

Yearbook oddities: Top 10 List As many of you may know I collect and sell yearbooks. Other posts of mine in this section show the two dozen or so Big Spring yearbooks I have for sale, including junior high and college yearbooks. However, most of the yearbooks I have collected are from other cities in Texas and throughout the country. I have seen a lot of different yearbooks, and most are just about what you would expect, but some are a little odd. Here is my Top 10 List of Yearbook Oddities: 10. A few yearbooks, principally from the northeast part of the country, do not have pictures (mug shots) of the classmates! They just have the general group shot pictures of sports, clubs, band, etc. 9. Some yearbooks were really just for the seniors. Other classes only took up a very small portion of the yearbook with individual mug shots the size of you little finger nail. 8. The old yearbooks I have from Big Spring from the 1920s and 1930s have pictures of the students from each class, but they are not listed alphabetically! There is a possibility they might be listed by class raking (grade point average or some such). Has anybody heard of such a thing? 7. I have the feeling that many students did not have their picture in these old Big Spring yearbooks. I am sure it was a financial issue. 6. The old Big Spring yearbooks from the first few decades of the twentieth century contained jokes. A few were *very* politically incorrect, especially about racial stereotypes. 5. Over 50% of the pages in one yearbook are congratulation ads from parents and grandparents. 4. After several decades some yearbook covers smell awful! 3. I don't have any like this, but some old yearbooks from very small schools were hand made on mimeograph machines. Do you remember those smelly, messy things? The pictures were put in them by hand like into a photo album. 2. One yearbook I have is not a book at all! It is more like an organizer. It unfolds into three sections containing pockets for different sized booklets. There is a Sports booklet, an Activities booklet, a Seniors booklet and a Underclassmen booklet. And number 1 on the list of yearbook oddities: 1. A few yearbooks do not mention the name of the high school or the city where it is located anywhere in the yearbook or on the cover! - David Harper

Just lurking. Where is everybody? Anyone from the class of 1980? This weekend is going to be great football weather here in Arkansas and was just thinking about the great football games at BSHS. I was a band kid and always seemed to have great fun at the games no matter if we lost or win. Everyone be safe!

I received the BSHS newsletter today. No mention of a 60th reunion for our class of 1947. I suppose there will not be one this year? Haven't attended for several years, but thought I might go this year - since it is our 60th.

The '77 reunion was held August 4 & 5. It was a great reunion and very well put together. It was great seeing people that I hadn't seen in 27 to 30 years. Exciting! Thank you Emily, Jill and Suzanne - all the hard work that I know ya'll did was worth it.

Realizing it has been 40 years, I was wondering if there has already been or if there are plans for a 40 year reunion for the Class of '67. I have not been back to Big Spring since I left for Texas A&M in the fall of '67. I imagine Big Spring has changed a lot since then. I graduated A&M and have lived in upstate New York (yes, lots of snow and cold) since 1972. I work for The University of Rochester. If anything is planned, I would appreciate hearting about it. Thanks all, Greg

I didn't like the way I ended that last posting. "...and others (civic clubs) are asking." That is not true. My goodness! I am beginning to believe my own promotional material by the paper. It is the hope of the NEWS CITIZEN that I will be asked by more clubs to speak. They have promoted me every way possible, now it is my turn to put myself before our readership to push our circulation upward. That's what the newpaper business is all about, so I am learning. Now I feel better; just had to clarify that last statement. I'm still amazed that age 80 I have a whole new world opening to me; one that I did not seek at all and had no idea it was going to happen. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

My email address has changed. What a wonderful life at age 80. Mrs. Lillain Shick was my English teacher there at BHS. It was in her class that I learned the love of literature and the written word. At age 80, my local newspaper, the PASADENA NEWS CITIZEN, invited me to be on its staff. I have a column titled "Hardie Moments with Hardie Matthews." When I write about Big Spring, I'll post it on this website. What a marvelous site. From my continually performing as Drum Major and on stage for my first production as a sphomore, I developed a love of performing and was invited to speak at one of our Rotary Clubs and have other clubs asking. Amazing! Thanks to BHS !!!

It's 2:45 a.m and I am feeling a bit nostalgic and can't sleep. Remembering the days of my well spent youth. Were the taco and burger baskets from The Wagon Wheel really as good as I remember? How about the lime ices with salt? Saturday night spent circling the Wheel... Mary Nell thanks for picking me up in your Mustang I think that is what you drove was it blue? I am sorry I can't recall some names but I do remember make out dates, fogging up car windows. You guys were such gentlemen back then. Cece I remember listening to music with you. Our father's worked together on base. Stephanie Raphael...was your middle name Monique? We bought some marigolds and planted them in a box for one of our teachers in celebration of Earth Day. Frankie I remember you so well. You were so cute Do you remember coming over and hanging out on the patio? We lived in the house just off the back gate behind the 7 eleven. Our parents bowled together. Lawerence you are a very sweet memory thanks for the kisses. I apologize for what I did to you. Hey Mike you were ahead of me in school I am so glad I had the chance to know you. We had some good times after I graduated. Hi to your sisters. I remember the bobcat...I think his name was T.C. Hey to all you AF brats, do you remember how some of the locals hated us. They turned the base into a prison and the housing into apartments. It was a blast spending summers at the pool. Does anyone remember the pretty German lady who didn't shave her underarms? We thought it was pretty gross back then. Thanks for all the memories people of Big Spring, former classmates and all you AF brats. I would love to hear from anyone who might share some of the same memories. Richard I can't forget you. Did you become an astronomer? Remember the nights we laid on the sidewalk looking at the stars? I do...

I was thinking that it would be fun to get those classes plus mine (85) together in 2010 for one big reunion and every 5 years thereafter. I have been going to my moms reunions (Julie Rainwater Shirey)55,56,57,58 since I was a wee tot and they always put 4 or so classes together and it was always a blast! We all had friends in other classes so it is just a suggestion. If you are in any of these classes 83 through 86, let me know what you think! Brenda Shirey Hays-Class of 85

This is in reference to what Donnie Mabe Rupp posted about Glenna Coffey, BSHS class of 1955. Here is her class picture from the 1953 yearbook when she was a sophomore. Obituary from Dallas Morning News for member of BSHS Class of 1955: Glenna Keith Coffey Moore MOORE, , GLENNA KEITH COFFEY Nine letters, "Yankee Iron Horse." As an avid crossword puzzler, Glenna Moore knew the answer-Lou Gehrig. When Glenna penciled in the name 'Lou Gehrig' on countless crossword puzzles, little did she know they would one day share something life-altering in common. On July 27 2007, Glenna Keith Coffey Moore, age 70, passed away after living the past two years with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend to all, Glenna will be remembered for her radiant smile, contagious laughter, and always-caring heart. Glenna's life began on November 22, 1936 in Big Spring, TX as the daughter of John Askew Coffey and Margaretta Sanders Coffey. The Coffeys were schoolteachers and instilled the teacher traits of patience and grace with their daughter. Glenna graduated from Baylor University in 1959 with a B.A. (Education) degree where she served as President of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After college, Glenna moved to Dallas, TX and followed in her parent's footsteps as a fourth-grade teacher at George W. Truett Elementary School from 1959 to 1962. On a blind date in the fall of 1961 she met William Alvin Moore, Jr. (Al). It was a classic case of opposites attract. Being outgoing and talkative, Glenna never envisioned herself finding Al, the much more introverted of the two, attractive-but she did. And in the summer of '62, they married. By the spring of 1963, Glenna and Al were living in Fort Worth, TX when they welcomed the birth of their first daughter, Melana Love Moore (Lana). A second child, this time a boy, followed soon thereafter-William Alvin Moore, III (Trip). And in 1970, girl/boy twins arrived-Margaret Elizabeth Moore (Marty) and John Hardin Moore (John). The Moore Family settled into their North Dallas home on Tophill Circle where Glenna took care of the kids and Al took care of his young, growing business. Glenna led a very active life during this time. Besides the full-time job of being a mother, Glenna found time to volunteer for Meals on Wheels, participate in numerous Parent Teacher Associations, and be an active member of Spring Valley Methodist Church and later, Prestonwood Baptist Church and Park Cities Baptist Church. For thirty-plus years, Glenna enjoyed the camaraderie and competition from playing tennis at T Bar M Tennis Club. She played on numerous teams with the Tennis Competitors of Dallas, the Women's Tennis Association, and as a mixed-doubles partner with Al. Some of Glenna's fondest times were spent on and off-the-court with her tennis friends. Because of her personable, dependable, and likeable ways, Glenna developed friendships easily. Some of her most enduring friendships were formed within her long-running neighborhood bridge club and more recently, her dominoes group. She was fortunate to remain close to her brother, Robert Thomas Coffey, M.D. of Fort Worth, TX. Glenna was also fortunate to enjoy the endearing friendship of Trip's wife, Jacqueline Blair Moore, and their two children-Blair Christian Moore and Hannah Love Moore. Glenna absolutely adored her two grandchildren who affectionately called her 'GiGi.' But Glenna's most enduring and endearing friendship was with her husband of 45-years. By the time their kids had grown and moved away, Al and Glenna became the dating couple they used to be and set forth to live and love till eternity. As a couple, they traveled the world enjoying the adventures of barging down the canals of France, cruising through the Straits of Magellan, and ballooning over Switzerland. Unfortunately, the creeping paralysis of the ALS disease put a stop to their worldly travels. As the disease progressed, Glenna's body became weaker but her bond with Al became stronger. Their unfailing love was on display every day as Al took care of his ailing wife until her passing. And now, Glenna patiently waits for Al to join her in their most adventurous travels yet-the glorious eternity of Heaven. The Moore Family will welcome friends from 6:00 to 8:00 on July 30 at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home (7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225). Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on July 31 at Park Cities Baptist Church (3933 Northwest Parkway). The Moore Family requests memorials be made in Glenna's name to MDA ALS Division (12750 Merit Drive Suite 1220, Dallas, TX 75251). Dignity Memorial Sparkman Hillcrest 7405 W. Northwest Hwy. Dallas (214) 363-5401 OB6 Obituaries, Notices Published in the Dallas Morning News on 7/29/2007.

Hello fellow Class of '82! Homecoming is the weekend of October 5th & 6th. We have events planned for our class. See the message below that was sent to all classmates for whom we have email addresses. We are desperately in need of more contact information (email address, postal address, business websites or phone numbers) for any and all classmates. Also we need info on classmates who may be deceased. Yes, we know of several who passed on in the late 80's or even before we graduated, but we have virtually no information from the last 10 years or so. Even if you think it's old news or are not sure if it's accurate, send me a note anyway! We'll research it for accuracy before we announce it. I need to remind everyone that we are trying to set up a "memory room" or "memory area" for the Saturday evening function at the Country Club. We are asking everyone to send group pictures from your 6th grade class or any group pictures from our childhood like Little League, church, Girl/Boy Scouts, etc. We'll take items from Jr. High, too...it doesn't matter to us. It will really be interesting and fun to take a trip down Memory Lane. Please send these to us electronically (scan them and email them to me) or make a color copy or burn them on a CD and mail them or bring them to us on Friday or Saturday morning so we may get them displayed before the event on Saturday evening. DO NOT BRING ANY ORIGINALS!!! These are irreplaceable, and we do not want the responsibility for loss or damage. I'll gladly send anyone my mailing address for this purpose. Please remember to check the message boards on classmates.com, bshsalumni.com or reunion.com 'cuz we have a reunion event planned on these. I try to post basically the same requests/info on all sites as I send in email messages. I'm hoping to get the attention of people whose email addresses I don't have, so that maybe they will contact me or someone in the class. To avoid the cost of postage, we would really like to handle all correspondence concerning the reunion electronically. I realize this is not possible for everyone and we will be sending some things by the US mail and will have to receive some things by mail. More on that in an update around the end of summer. This is our 25th reunion. We really want to make this the biggest and best one yet because we aren't getting any younger or any skinnier (as a general rule anyway)! It's the Silver Anniversary marking our graduation from BSHS, so we deserve to celebrate together in grand style, catch up on old friends, relive the "glory days" and make some new memories. The reunion is only about 8 weeks away! Start planning now. Keep Us All As One... Kim (McClendon) Dewbre & the Reunion Committee

After finding this site, I believe thanks should go out to a lot of people that has put in more hours than any of them would like to remember, but their works really show the effort.

It really got started with Julie for many years and now there is a crew with Logan, Don, and Doyle. I am sure there is more but due to health reasons, I have not been able to attend to many renuions. I will be thinking of everyone and hoping that every one has a wonderful time.

Please take time to say thanks to the ones that made it all happen.

I use most of the same search websites that David Harper uses. I also have paid subscriptions to Ancestry.com and other genealogical sites that have birth, marriage, and death records not readily available for free on the internet. Ancestry.com also has a people search for addresses and phone numbers. I also use:

http://preview.ussearch.com/preview/ (US Search website which is very helpful because you can search by age)

http://find.person.superpages.com/ (Superpages helps with verifying addresses and phone numbers)

http://www.anywho.com/ (an online directory that's great--I usually find that some of the addresses/phone numbers on Superpages are old and outdated when I check Anywho.com)

http://www.rootsweb.com/ (has a searchable database for the Social Security Death Index as well as other searchable death databases from California, Kentucky, Maine and Texas--these are also on Ancestry.com but it's a paid site)

http://www.genlookups.com/tx.htm (Genlookups has volunteers who will look up items for you--their website has the Texas Marriage Index and Texas Divorce Index plus a lot more searchable ones for other states)

Another resource I use is the tax appraisal databases that are available on line for just about every county in Texas and in most states. They sometimes help confirm that the person is still at the found address but the phone number is no longer listed--probably because they went to a cell phone.

When you have someone with a fairly common name, sometimes you have to send out an "all class" email to find out middle names, siblings' names, parents, etc., to help find the missing classmate.

How I find people using the Internet.

There is no single place on the Internet where you can go and enter someone's name and be guaranteed to find his or her current address. I subscribe to several for-a-fee (paid) search services, with yearly subscriptions of several hundred dollars. Even using these sources and many other free Internet sources it takes some skill and patience to track some people down.

Here are some websites I use. Some of the paid sites have free search options that can be very useful.

http://publicdata.com/ (Paid) It has Driver's License records and Voter Registration records. You can search Voter records by maiden name. It also has criminal records.

https://www.intelius.com/ (Paid) But basic free searches can return useful information, such as age and relative's names.

http://www.peoplefinders.com/ (Paid) Similar to Intelius above. You can search by date of birth.

http://www.zabasearch.com/ (Free parts and paid parts, like Intelius and PeopleFinder).

http://www.knowx.com/ (Paid) But has many free searches, especially, marriage and divorce records for Texas.

http://www.whitepages.com/ (Free) All kinds of searches, including reverse address.

I have been searching for missing people using the Internet for several years and have discovered the hard way all kinds of off the beaten path places on the Internet to find out things. Each search will be different and will need different search techniques.

If you are looking for someone but don't want to go to the trouble -- and expense -- of using the above websites, let me know and I will try to find your missing person for you. No charge; no guarantees.

- David Harper

Boy, I am tired of all this spamming too! But enough of that. To the class of '72, are we having anything this year? And let me say hello to all my ex-students and athletes and any of my former co-workers on staff there at Big Spring high and around the country.

I agree with Ms. Payne about the spammers. It's good that we have a knowledgable WebMaster like Mr. Bond to know how to fix this. Thanks - just a reminder ...about the class of '77. If you're out there please sign-up. Jill, Suzanne and Emily are doing their darnedest to get everyone. If anyone knows how to get in touch with Mike "Woody" Wood or Sheri Snodgrass, please let me know. Thanks!

My name is Curtis Matthews and I went to school there until 1979. I would have graduated in '81, but moved during the middle of my sophomore year.

Anyway, I live in Green Forest, AR and came across a black letterman's football sweater with Gold BS letters.

On the inside was stitched Mike McAllister.

I guess you know where I might be going with this. Do you think you might research what possible class this sweater came out of? Or advise me where I might research deepr for this name.

The sweater might mean more to someone closer to this person. I was astounded that I found this outside of a flea market type store.

Anyways, Hope you can help.

Curtis Matthews

Did I ever goof! In my message just posted, some of you in reading it might wonder, "So what does Myrtle Lee's painting have to do with Robert Swann Lee? Evidentaly they are related." If that might be your thinking, you are right. Myrtle Lee was Robert Swann Lee's mother. I failed to state that in my first message. Bone head here will blame that faux pas on age. Why not? At 80, anything can happen! And usually does!

October 26, 2006, I posted a message expressing my sorrow in not being able to become friends again with Robert Swann Lee. He passed away in 1997, and lived just an hour away from me. Swann, as I affectionately called him, had a wonderful mother and dad. Pat Simmons sent me a email message today that had a site for old Big Spring photographs. I clicked on it; there were many photographs, and therefore, I became rather complacent in viewing them. Then the citation read, "Rose Painting by Myrtle Lee." That just blew me away. Myrtle's painting had a very special soft look about them. And there was one of them on that website! What an amazing coincidence!

I just found out that Terry Dewayne Bailey, Class of 1990, was killed in a house fire last August. Does anyone know how to contact his family? I was devastated to hear the news and would like his family to have some photos that I have of him from recently before he died. I think he may still have an ex-wife and children in the area. Please contact me at jujuw2278@verizon.net with any clues as to how to find his family.

Thank you,
